gallery artists

The following artists are featured on the gallery in the information centre:

1. judy1

Judy Boyes lives and works in the Lake District, surrounded by the fells which inspire her work.

Her subjects are found in the quiet corners of Lakeland, often overlooked by visitors. Stone buildings, rustic village scenes, streams tumbling through hidden valleys - all observed with a keen, perceptive eye and transcribed in a fresh watercolour style which is both natural and unforced, and admirably catches the atmosphere of the area.

A member of the Society of Women Artists and the British Watercolour Society, Judy Boyes has also exhibited at the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours in London. The Artist magazine has featured her river scenes on its cover and in written articles, and the North Western Postal Board has used her 'letter-box' paintings.

Judy sells her originals and prints throughout Britain and abroad and has established herself as Lakeland's leading artist.

4.  Keith Melling

keith melling

Keith Melling is one of England's leading landscape painters. Born in 1946, he has been drawing and painting for as long as he can remember.   His first exhibition of 40 paintings was in 1966.   Although making use of a wide variety of mediums and techniques, oil paint made by himself in the traditional way, is still a favourite.  There is an ever increasing demand for his fine quality prints, published from paintings produced over the last 35 years.  He is represented in collections throughout the world.

5. Robert Fletcher Wildlife Artist

Robert Fletcher has lived in Satterthwaite since the early 1970's, relocating from Accrington East Lancashire. He moved to work as a forest worker based at the Grizedale Center.

Having painted and drawn from an early age. Robert used the influences of his work place and the surrounding environment to create his own style of wildlife and landscape studies.

Roberts use of pencil and crushed pastel has been developed to reflect the forest scenes. Resulting in atmospheric images; of misty woodlands, colorful sunsets and spectacular sunrises.

His wildlife portraits and bird studies have developed along side his interests in wildlife and conservation.

6.  STEF OTTEVANGER

SO

In my work I have tried to get the essence of the animal subject, in particular its character and typical movement and stance. In some cases it is just catching that fleeting moment and clay is an ideal medium to do this in that it helps me to avoid over refining the image. I don't want my work to be a scale model or an ornament but more of an impression of the animal. These are animals with attitude. All these pieces are cast in a bronzed resin which is an ideal material for reproducing sculpture to ensure its permanency. Most of these designs are limited editions and come supplied with a numbered certificate of authentication.
